Director of Development and Communications: The Wetlands Initiative

Written by TWB Fundraising | April 3, 2023

The Wetlands Initiative (TWI) designs, restores, and creates wetlands by innovating, collaborating, and employing sound science to improve water quality, habitat for plants and wildlife, and our climate. TWI is tackling exciting new projects across the Calumet region in Southeast Chicago and Northwest Indiana, including turning a vast floodwater detention corridor into a natural and scenic asset for communities.

The organization is looking for a Director of Development and Communications who will play a crucial role in this work, helping TWI build a public profile and donor base to help expand capacity and reach. Responsibilities include:

Strategic Thinking and Planning

  • Develop and implement an annual development and communications plan
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to set fundraising goals
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, provide strategy for brand awareness and communications, and track fundraising success

Leadership

  • Manage and support TWI’s development team
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to support committee work

Fundraising, Communications, and Brand Awareness

  • Create and implement TWI’s planned-giving program and recruit initial bequest commitments
  • Develop and execute fundraising and cultivation events
  • Ensure quality control over data entry in the donor/prospect database

TWI’s portfolio of work, recognition of the organization’s role in successful large projects, and its range of recent collaborations reflect a period of significant growth, with more planned.
