Vice President for Institutional Advancement: McCormick Theological Seminary

Since 1829, McCormick Theological Seminary has been a leader in theological education, preparing transformational leaders who champion faith, justice, and meaningful change. Located in Chicago’s vibrant Hyde Park, McCormick is a diverse and inclusive community, uniting students and faculty from a broad spectrum of Christian traditions to answer God’s call in the world.

Responsibilities

McCormick is seeking a Vice President for Institutional Advancement, a dynamic leader who will work with incoming President, Dr. Maisha I. Handy, to strengthen the Seminary’s mission and philanthropic strategy. Reporting directly to Dr. Handy, the Vice President will lead the advancement program, build donor relationships, and oversee a small, collaborative team.

This pivotal role offers the opportunity to:

  • Lead McCormick’s advancement program, including annual giving, major and planned gifts, alumni relations, and corporate and foundation support.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing Advancement team, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with the Vice President for Community Engagement and Alumni Relations to strengthen alumni/ae relationships and philanthropic partnerships.
  • Cultivate and steward major donors, with a focus on growing annual fund contributions from $600,000 to $1 million.
  • Work with the President, Board of Trustees, and faculty to build a culture of philanthropy aligned with McCormick’s mission and seven core values, which include social justice, cultural diversity, and ecumenical unity.
The Ideal Candidate

will bring a proven track record of fundraising success, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a passion for theological education and social justice. A deep understanding of McCormick’s Reformed heritage and ecumenical commitments is essential, as is the ability to build genuine relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
